At this year’s New York Comic Con, I got the chance to check out two great panels for a pair of TV shows, Nikita and V.
The Nikita panel included stars Maggie Q, Shane West and Lyndsy Fonseca along with executive producer Craig Silverstein who all had lots to share about working on season one and what was coming up for the rest of this season. They talked about being very conscious to not directly rehash story lines from the original series (La Femme Nikita) but to instead take the show in a different direction. The cast had gone through an intense boot camp prior to filming to not only for the physical conditioning but also to get into the mindset of trainees like Lyndsy Fonseca’s character from the show (Alex). They showed some clips for some upcoming episodes and indicated that the show would gradually move away from the mission-of-the-week style and more towards a serialized story. There will be more flashbacks to come to fill in the blanks of what has happened to the characters in the years prior including how Alex’s parents were killed. The guests seemed really happy to be there and Maggie Q, whose known for her intense action roles, was especially funny and charismatic.
Three of the ladies of V were also in attendance, Morena Baccarin, Laura Vandervoort and Jane Badler along with Executive Producer Steve Pearlman to discuss the upcoming second season. Fans may remember Badler as Diana from the original 1983 series who returns in the current version as, uh well, Diana. They revealed the name of the character was chosen as a tribute to the original Diana before Jane had even auditioned for the role. Diana is Anna’s mother and the upcoming season will focus on the power struggle between these two queens while a third queen in waiting, Vandervoot, is also gaining power and a following of her own. This year we’re going to learn more about the biology of the aliens and their lizard-like features. They also discussed how this year the resistance would be growing so that it’s more than a hand-full of people since that doesn’t make for much of a resistance. Some clips were shown from the upcoming season revealing that Diana is being held prisoner by Anna and hidden away from the rest of the alien population. And not to spoil anything but my guess is she’s eventually going to be free and start stirring things up. The clips that I saw seemed to ramp up the intensity from last season and take things in some new directions. Unfortunately the second season has been pushed back until January 2011 and currently is only scheduled to run 10 episodes instead of 13.
Special thanks to TheTelevixen and Sheryl DaSilva for the photos.

I know what you’re thinking. With the feel of fall in the air and the leaves falling from the trees, you have a craving for some biker gangs and gay nightclub owners peppered with some invading aliens and some zombies thrown in just for good measure. Well sir or madam, have you come to the right place.
