This week not only do we celebrate 100 episodes of Verbal Brew goodness, but we also go back and revisit the year that was 2010. We take a look at the year in films, TV and video games along with any thing else that struck our fancy this year. And we also take some time to remember some of the worst which we looked at that inspire many of the profanity laced rants that you’ve all come to know and love. Happy New Year and see you in 2011!
We discuss a number of the year’s films including Inception, Machete, Harry Brown and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. We also look less fondly on the some of the worst of the year including Centurion, Alice in Wonderland, Skyline and I’m Still Here.
Best and Worst of TV 2010 (24:02 -36:45)
We also look at some highs and lows of the past year in television including Archer, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, V, Dexter, Sherlock and Fringe.
Best and Worst of Video Games 2010 (37:16 -58:06)
We’ve got a pile of different games that we look back on in our best of segment including Just Cause 2, Halo Reach, Miner Dig Deep and some mixed opinions concerning Red Dead Redemption.
On the podcast this week we look at a pair of new games on the Xbox 360,Comic Jumper and Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring, the new action film RED and we wrap things up with a look back at the 2010 New York Comic Con.
Developed by Twisted Pixel Games, the same folks who brought us last year’s ‘Splosion Man, Comic Jumper is a new game released exclusively on the Xbox Live Arcade. The game is a side-scroller in which Captain Smiley and his sidekick Star must defeat enemies located throughout different comic books. Check out our review to see what we had to say.
Lucha Libre AAA: Héroes del Ring (12:38 – 27:35)
We’ve seen a lot of wrestling games from the WWE and TNA over the last few years but this is the first title for Mexico’s AAA promotion. Featuring over 40 different wrestlers from AAA’s roster, the game showcases the high flying style that the luchadors are known for. Published by Konami, the game is available for all three consoles as well as the DC and PSP.
RED (27:55 – 38:38)
Based on the DC comic series, RED (an acronym for Retired Extremely Dangerous) stars Bruce Willis as a retired CIA agent who is attacked by an unknown assassin. He rounds up other retired agents, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren, to help track down the mystery assailant.
New York Comic Con (39:08 – 49:57)
I had a chance to head down to south last weekend for New York Comic Con. I share some thoughts on the happenings of the Con including a couple of demos I got to try out, Blood Stone 007 and the Red Dead Redemption DLC Undead Nightmare, along with some hands on-time with the soon to be released Boxee Box. When we were recording the Red Dead Redemption DLC didn’t have a confirmed release date but it is now scheduled to come out on Oct 26. Blood Stone is scheduled for release on Nov 2.
This week on the podcast, we look at the Fringe season 2 finale and reflect on the show’s second season in general. And on the topic of TV, we also reflect on the recent Lost series finale. We also take a look at two new games on the Xbox 360, Alan Wake from Remedy and RockStar Games’ Red Dead Redemption.
This little morsel from Rockstar Games appears to be a sequel to Red Dead Revolver. I haven’t had a chance to try out the first one but from the look of this trailer its got some potential to be great. Its due out later this year.
