     On the podcast this week we take a trial run with The Old Republic and sit down to wacth at a pair of new DVD releases, Roadie and Take Shelter.

    The Old Republic (01:09 – 15:25)

    EA and Bioware recently had a free weekend for people to check out their Star Wars based MMORPG, The Old Republic. We recently took advantage of this free weekend to try the game out. And by we, I mean one of us. We’ll explain why in the review.

    Roadie (15:44 – 22:47)

    After 20 years on the road as a roadie with Blue Oyster Cult, Jimmy finds himself trying to deal with life off the road. The film was released on DVD on March 20.

    Take Shelter (22:48 – 43:37)

    Michael Shannon plays a man who is suddenly plagued with visions and dreams of an oncoming natural disaster and begins building a storm shelter in order to protect his family. The film was released on DVD on February 14.

    On episode 163, we have a look at a trio of new games for both the PC and Xbox 360, New Yankee in King Arthur’s CourtI Am Alive and Shoot Many Robots.

    New Yankee in King Arthur’s Court (01:19 – 14:01)

    New Yankee in King Arthur’s Court is a time management strategy game that finds your character zapped back in time to work for King Arthur. You’re tasked with growing crops, mining and other jobs to keep your camp up and running. The game was developed by Alawar Games who have a one hour free demo available for download on their website.

    I Am Alive (14:16 – 33:52)

    I Am Alive is a third person survival horror game where you make your way through your home city after a disaster has left the city in ruins. Developed by Darkworks and Ubisoft, the game is available for download on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

    Shoot Many Robots (34:08 – 46:09)

    Developed by Demiurge Studios, Shoot Many Robots is 2D side scrolling game where you shoot, as you may have guessed, many robots. We looked at the game on the Xbox 360 but it is also available for download on the PlayStation Network and is scheduled for release soon on the PC.


  3. The Grey – Alan Wake – Warp – Nexuiz – Ep 161 – LB Button

     On this week’s episode we review The Grey and three games from the current Xbox House Party promotion, Alan Wake’s American NightmareWarp and Nexuiz.

    The Grey (01:30 – 16:22)

    While on their way home, a group of oil workers crash land in the middle of nowhere Alaska and are forced to protect themselves from the elements and a whole pile of wolves. The film stars Liam Neeson and was directed by Joe Carnahan.

    Alan Wake’s American Nightmare (16:43 – 32:41)

    As part of the Xbox House Party promotion, Remedy Entertainment has released Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, a follow up to the original game from 2010. This stand alone game acts like an episode of the Night Springs TV show where Alan hunts down his alter ego Mr. Scratch.

    Warp (32:42 – 42:10)

    You are an alien creature who wakes up as a captive in a science lab and you have to find your way out. Thankfully you can hide by warping inside of various objects as well as warping into other people.

    Nexuiz (42:11 – 52:11)

    Nexuiz  is a first person shooter that has been remade for the Xbox Live Arcade based on the PC version originally released in 2005. The remade version is also available on PSN and Steam.


  4. Mega World Smash – Justice League: Doom – Game Dev Story – Ep 160 – Uranus

    On this week’s episode we look at the new straight to DVD release, Justice League: Doom and a pair of games, Mega Smash World and the mobile game Game Dev Story.

    Mega World Smash (01:18 – 17:20)

    Mega World Smash is an Arkanoid style game developed by Alawar Games. The game is available for the PC and also has a one hour free trial available for download.

    Justice League: Doom (17:37 – 29:32)

    Vandal Savage recruits a number of villains with a carefully crafted plan to take out each of the members of the Justice League. The film was released straight to DVD on February 28.

    Game Dev Story (29:41 – 51:42)

    Developed by Kairosoft, Game Dev Story is a mobile game that allows you to run your own own game studio. The game is available for both iOs and Android devices.
