    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy review

    On this week’s podcast we take a look at the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Season 2 of Sherlock and a new downloadable game for the Xbox 360, Chopper HD.

    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (02:04 – 12:23)

    Gary Oldman is a retired spy who returns to investigate a potential mole within the upper echelon of British Intellegence. Based on the 1974 novel by John le Carré, the film also stars Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt and Mark Strong. The film is currently in wide release in theaters in North America.

    Sherlock Season 2 (12:41 – 35:30)

    We had taken a look at season one of Sherlock last year and this year the show returns with season two and another trio of 90 min episodes. Season 2 of the show will be available on DVD and BluRay in Europe on January 23.

    Choplifter HD (35:40 -45:36 )

    Choplifter HD is a remake of the original Choplifter arcade game released back in 1982. We took a look at the game on the Xbox Live Arcade but it is also available for Windows and the PlayStation 3.

    It’s our first show of 2012! This week we have a look at the downloadable game, Joe Danger as well as the  film, The Ides of March.

    Joe Danger Special Edition (01:32 – 12:33)

    Developed by Hello Games, Joe Danger is a game where you, as you might have already guessed, are Joe Danger, famous motorbike stunt man. We took a look at the recently released version on the Xbox Live Arcade but it is also available on the PlayStation Network.

    The Ides of March (13:05 – 27:27)

    Ryan Gosling plays a young, ambitious campaign manager for George Clooney, a Pennsylvania Governor making his way to the White House. The film was directed by George Clooney and also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti and Evan Rachel Wood. It was released  in theaters back in October, and you still may find it there, but it will be released on DVD and BluRay on January 17.

    In what has become an annual tradition around Verbal Brew HQ, we sit down to take a look back at the things we’ve played, read and watched over the last year. We nominate our favorites of the year and reflect back on some of the other things that were a little less favorable.

    Video Games (01:23 – 24:37)

    We look back at a number of games from the past year including Batman: Arkham City, Rochard, Sanctum, Minecraft, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dead Pixels, Portal 2 and L.A. Noire.

    Television (24:56 – 35:41)

    We also look back a number of TV shows from the past year including Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Torchwood and Episodes.

    Movies (35:55 – 54:47)

    We wrap up our year in review  by discussing some of the year’s films that we enjoyed (and some of those that we didn’t) including The Muppets, X-Men First Class,  Drive, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Cowboys Vs Aliens, Thor and Captain America.

    On this week’s podcast, we take a look at a pair of movies, The Muppets and Attack the Block as well as an indie game on the Xbox Live Arcade, Red Tie Miner.

    The Muppets (01:19 – 15:25)

    The Muppets have returned with their first theatrical release in twelve years. This time the gang reunites to buy back the abandoned Muppet Theater. The film stars Amy Adams and Jason Segel who also wrote the movie.

    Red Tie Miner (15:41 – 24:50)

    Red Tie Miner is a new indie release on the Xbox Live Arcade that involves mining…with a red tie. Well you mine with a pick-axe, you’re just wearing the tie. Anywho, the game is developed and published by Maximinus games in France and is available now for 80 MS points.

    Attack the Block (25:07 – 38:41)

    As a group of kids in South London wrap up a routine mugging, they are attacked by a small creature who they chase down and kill. Said creature turns out to be an alien who’s fallen from the sky and his co-travellers aren’t very impressed by this turn of events to say the least. The film is the directorial debut from Jim Cornish and is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
