    December 29, 2010 by Bill

    Best and Worst of 2010

This week not only do we celebrate 100 episodes of Verbal Brew goodness, but we also go back and revisit the year that was 2010. We take a look at the year in films, TV and video games along with any thing else that struck our fancy this year. And we also take some time to remember some of the worst which we looked at that inspire many of the profanity laced rants that you’ve all come to know and love. Happy New Year and see you in 2011!

Best and Worst of Movies 2010 (01:41 -23:48)

We discuss a number of the year’s films including Inception, Machete, Harry Brown and Scott Pilgrim vs the World.  We also look less fondly on the some of the worst of the year including Centurion, Alice in Wonderland, Skyline and I’m Still Here.

Best and Worst of TV 2010 (24:02 -36:45)

We also look at some highs and lows of the past year in television including Archer, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, V, Dexter, Sherlock and Fringe.

Best and Worst of Video Games 2010 (37:16 -58:06)

We’ve got a pile of different games that we look back on in our best of segment including Just Cause 2, Halo Reach, Miner Dig Deep and some mixed opinions concerning Red Dead Redemption.

  2. Halo Reach – Batman: The Brave and the Bold – I’m Still Here – Ep 86

    September 22, 2010 by Bill

    I'm Still Here

This week on the podcast we review Halo Reach, the latest game from Bungie Studios. As well we also look at Batman: The Brave and the Bold for the Nintendo Wii and the new documentary, I’m Still Here.

    Halo Reach (01:26 – 31:40)

Halo Reach is Bungie’s fifth contribution to the franchise and is promised to be their final Halo game. We sunk a pile of hours this week into the campaign, both single player and co-op, as well as the vast number of multi-player modes that are available. Take a listen to our extensive discussion on the game.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold – The Videogame (31:50 – 39:41)

We had looked at Batman: The Brave and the Bold cartoon on a previous episode of the podcast but this time around Bill has brought the new game based on the show. The game is a 2-D side-scroller, beat ‘em up style crafted to match the unique art design and vibe of the show. We looked at the game on the Wii but it is also available for the Nintendo DS.

    I’m Still Here (40:15 – 54:19)

Directed by Casey Affleck, I’m Still Here is a documentary, or maybe more accurately a mockumentary, about Joaquin Phoenix’s retirement from acting to focus on his new music career as a rapper. Andrew had a chance to catch a screening of the recently released film and shared his thoughts on the film with the podcast. I’m Still Here is currently in theaters in limited release.

    Dollhouse Season 2

It’s time for another episode of the podcast. This week we’re looking at new game title from a well known franchise and we look at three TV shows for the fall season; two that are returning and as well as a brand new series that’s been getting a lot of buzz.

    • Halo 3 ODST
    • Heroes Season 4
    • Dollhouse Season 2
    • the premiere of Flash Forward

Let us know what you thought of ODST and the new TV premieres in the comments.

  4. Crusin the Trailer Park – Halo 3 ODST, Assassin’s Creed 2 and Gay Tony

    September 7, 2009 by Bill

    Halo 3 ODST

This trailer has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay or anything about the game for that matter. But personally, I’m now excited as hell to check this out. While I liked Halo 3 a lot, it still kind of felt like something I had already played before. Retelling the story from the ODST’s perspective could a unique way to shake the franchise up.  And just how bad ass could this look as a full length film?

    Assassin’s Creed 2

We’re going to be looking at Assassin’s Creed 1 in a future episode of the podcast but in the meantime we’re getting a look at what part 2 could look like. The music choice isn’t something I wouldn’t picked but I gotta admit its pretty damn sweet. And hang gliding? Yes please!

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony

I’m digging these expansion pack releases that Rockstar is doing for GTA IV. It expands on the already expansive universe of the game but doesn’t charge us $60 a pop each time a new one comes out. In this episode, you play as Luis Lopez who works as a body guard for Gay Tony, an operator of a couple of nightclubs in Liberty City. No word on what new gameplay features are going to be introduced but I do see me some parachutes! Thie episode will be available October 29 a download on Xbox Live Arcade or as part of the Episodes from Liberty City bundle.
