On the podcast this week we look at a new Casey Affleck movie recently released on DVD The Killer Inside Me, a new Xbox 360 game in the Castlevania franchise, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and a Batman comic book series that focuses on the villains, Joker’s Asylum.
The Killer Inside Me (01:33 – 16:56)
Directed by Michael Winterbottom, The Killer Inside Me is based on the 1952 novel by Jim Thompson. The film stars Casey Affleck as a Texas Sheriff with a reputation for being quiet but hides a much darker side. The film had a limited theatrical run back in June but is now available on DVD and Blue-Ray.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (17:14 – 33:50)
It seems like just a mere few weeks ago since we were reviewing a Castlevania title. But while that previous game was available exclusively as a download, this time Konami has taken the helm to bring us a full retail game. The franchise has certainly had some hits and misses so listen to Kevin and Andrew’s review to see which side of the fence this title falls on. We looked at the game on the Xbox 360 but it is also available on the Playstation 3.
Joker’s Asylum (34:00 – 51:33)
Joker’s Asylum was a comic series released in 2008 consisting of 5 stories, each one focused on a different famous Batman villan such as Penguin, Two-Face and of course the Joker himself. A second volume was released in August of this year but for this review we looked at volume one.
On this week’s podcast we have a pair of games and a pair of TV shows. We start off with a look at the latest Xbox’s Summer of Arcade release, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. We also take a look an older release, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. We wrap things up with two new TV shows that premiered this summer, SyFy’s Haven and ABC’s The Gates.
Castlevania: Harmony of Despair (01:50 – 22:24)
The Castlevania franchise has had some ups and downs but now there’s a new release as a part of the Xbox 360 Summer of Arcade. We take a look at where this title falls and if it’s worth the 1200 MS points.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (22:47 – 36:39)
With Kane and Lynch 2 a few weeks away from release, we thought we would give the 2007 original game a try. The story focus on a recently escaped convict, Kane, looking to reclaim some stolen cash with a psycho sidekick, Lynch, in tow.
Haven (36:46 -52:40)
SyFy has a new original series based on the book, The Colorado Kid by Stephen King. Haven is a small town in Maine that seems to have a lot of unique individuals living there. And it’s filmed in Nova Scotia! Haven can also be seen every Monday on Showcase in Canada.
The Gates (52:41 -65:05)
ABC has also launched a new show for the summer season starring Rhona Mitra. The show focuses, again, on a small community where a number of unique characters reside. This time it’s a gated community that happens to house a number of vampires, werewolves and other assorted supernatural folks.
